Ambient Intelligence for Reducing Power Consuption

Using artificial intelligence, a computer could monitor electricity usage within a home and schedule certain household tasks for when electricity usage is low. These tasks could include running the dishwasher, cooling the fridge, heating the hot water tank, running the laundry or drying machine. If hybrid or electric cars become prevalent, the battery in the car could be used as a temporary energy source to power household devices when energy usage in the house is high, and then the car battery could recharge itself during the night when electricity usage is low. Also, if one is gone on vacation, the car could put its stored energy back into the utility grid for others to use when demand is high, and again recharge itself when demand is low.
